Our Turf Brings All the Dogs to the Yard

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County is making play possible at HSSC thanks to a $41,000 grant from the Helen C. Schwieder Fund to install turf in our group play yard. Playgroups are a fantastic way for us to get small groups of shelter dogs together for socialization and exercise. The only downside is how dirty the dogs get in our sandy, muddy backyard, and then they track that dirt all over our building. That's all in the past now that we have gorgeous artificial grass. Turf may seem like a luxury, but it's much more sanitary, and the dogs and the building stay much cleaner. That means we can spend more time playing and less time cleaning and bathing, and that's a win for staff and dogs alike.
Students from Booker High School enjoy playing with a shelter pup in the turfed yard.
