Senior pets are easy to overlook. Puppies and kittens tend to get the first look, but older pets have a lot going for them.

Through Chloe’s Promise, the Wenk Family Charitable Foundation is helping more senior pets find homes by covering adoption fees for all cats and dogs age 7 and older. There is no age requirement for adopters.

Why Adopt a Senior Pet

• You know who you’re bringing home. Senior pets have already grown into their personalities, so you can get a better sense of their energy level, quirks, and what they’re looking for in a home.
• They may already know the ropes. Many senior pets come with some training and established routines. They may already be house-trained, know basic commands, or simply have a better handle on how life with humans works.
• They’re often past the puppy and kitten chaos. Senior pets can absolutely still be playful and active, but many have moved beyond the constant go-go-go stage. If you want a companion who can hang without quite as much hands-on training, an older pet might be your speed.
• Seven is just a number. “Senior” can make a pet sound much older than they actually are. Cats and dogs age differently, and many pets age 7+ still have plenty of active, happy years ahead of them.
• The bond doesn’t care about age. Senior pets can learn new routines, settle into new homes, and form strong relationships with their people. You’re not missing out on that experience just because you didn’t meet them when they were young.

Ready to meet your match? Visit the shelter during adoption hours to meet our available senior cats and dogs. No appointment is needed.

Our team will help you get to know the animals and find a pet who fits your home and lifestyle. Once you’ve found your match, an adoption coordinator will guide you through the adoption process.

When you adopt a cat or dog age 7 or older, their adoption fee is automatically waived through Chloe’s Promise. There is no separate program application or adopter age requirement.
