    78,081 Reasons To Be Thankful

The Giving Challenge, presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County with giving strengthened by The Patterson Foundation, caused a fervor of generosity across the Suncoast. This 24-hour day of local giving generated more than $15.9M in unrestricted contributions for 669 nonprofits. Of that total, HSSC received $78,081 from 531 donors. These funds will ensure that every animal receives the food, medicine, enrichment, exercise, and attention it needs, for as long as it needs. As a no-kill shelter, that's the promise we make to every animal. And it's one that we will fulfill more than 2,700 times in 2022 alone. We could not keep that promise without help from kind people like those who participated in the Giving Challenge.

We have 178 animals in our care as of this posting. More than 50 kittens have come in this week alone. We immediately sprung into action, finding them foster homes and making sure they have everything they need. That responsiveness is a hallmark of a premier shelter, and it's what the Giving Challenge makes possible.

If you'd like to see the full Giving Challenge results, check out the leaderboard. If you have questions about your donation, see the Giving Challenge page for answers to FAQs.

We are so thankful for our community and their unwavering support of animals and the Humane Society of Sarasota County. THANK YOU!
