Check out this big goofball! Meet Matilda! Matilda has been through a lot of recent travel! Originally from Louisiana and found bravely roaming the streets for food and shelter, Matilda made her way to us. She was then adopted but sadly ended up sadly being dropped off at Sarasota County Animal Services when her owners could no longer care for her. We scooped her up again, and now she is patiently waiting for the furever family of her dreams! This poor sweet girl has been in a shelter environment since November 2017, which is far too long for such a wonderful pup. Matilda is in tip-top shape and is always rocking a larger-than-life smile. Her lovely honey eyes blend swimmingly with her coat; she is truly a stunner. At 42 pounds and just about 3 years old, she is a young adult who is positively filled with energy and just wants to give tons of kisses with her spotted tongue (very indicative of her Chow Chow mix). Like to go on morning jogs? Don't hesitate to come in and meet with her today! Since Matilda is one of our long-term dogs, we offer a special "Slumber Party" with her! The slumber party is an extended trial period where Matilda stays in your home for 3-30 days. HSSC will provide all of her food, medications, and necessities during this time. Should you fall in love with Matilda during this time, you simply return to HSSC to complete the adoption and live happily ever after. Should you decide that Matilda is not right for you, you just bring her back to HSSC, and know that with feedback about her behavior, you have helped us look for the best home for her. Let us know if you are interested in this offer! Below, we give a little explanation as to why Snow White needs a home which accommodates her special needs: Matilda is a resource guarder. Resource guarding stems from jealousy and competition in which Matilda feels inclined to protect items she deems valuable (especially toys) from humans/animals that she deems as potential threats. Matilda just can't get enough of her toys! For this reason, we believe Matilda would thrive best in a home where she is the only dog and without kids under 8 years old. If you are still interested in Matilda, our experienced staff will be happy to further inform and prepare you for Matilda's resource guarding and mild food aggression.
