The purpose of the HSSC Volunteer Department
is to assist
all other departments in achieving the HSSC Mission.
If you have always wanted to help animals
in need while having fun at the same time, then HSSC is the place
for you! We have a volunteer opportunity that’s purrrfect for
you! These programs are life altering for many of our animals and
without our volunteers, they wouldn’t exist.
If you would like to help but cannot
work directly with the animals, we offer several other essential opportunities,
such as distributing our Mandy Banks, helping with Special Events,
assisting administration with Clerical/office help and Volunteer Adoption
Associate.
If working hands on with the animals
is just the thing you’re looking for, then HSSC is the place
for you. Some of our tail-waggin’ opportunities include; Dog
walking, Cat cuddling, Matchmaking, Feline fanciers, K-9 coaching
and Offsite adoptions days.
Your first step in becoming one of HSSCs finest is to peruse our Volunteer
Programs - then come to one of our volunteer orientations.
If you are volunteering to fulfill a community service requirement,
please contact our Kennel Mananger.
Orientations are held in our Education
Building. New volunteers must pre register for orientation and other
classes by calling the Adoption dept. and/or leaving a voice mail
with Volunteer Coordinator Karie Hajek (955-4131, ext. 104). Please
note: you must be 18 or older to work with HSSC's shelter
pets. For those under 18, please contact the Education Department
for information about HSSC's children and youth programs.

providing appropriate solutions thereby increasing adoptability. All
cat lovers are invited to join the feline fanciers once you’ve

mental stimulation and the human companionship that will make them
wonderful additions to their new families. This program requires training

VOLUNTEER ADOPTION ASSOCIATE
–
This is an opportunity to become an important part of the adoption
department, assisting in the various processes of an adoption from
beginning to end.
SPECIAL EVENTS –
Several times through the year we have special event fund raisers
for our shelter. These events require lots of help with registration,
sometimes crowd control, selling raffle tickets …..and much
more! This is a fun way to help out our shelter while at the same
time enjoying the events
OFFICE HELP –
For our special events there are always huge mailings to prepare.
Sometimes we just need help catching up on miscellaneous clerical
work.
