10th Annual Adoptathon

This year’s theme is Recycle! Rehome! Relove!

This year’s Adoptathon features our wonderful “shelter kids”, Our Fantastic All-day Raffle, the HSSC Teen Club Yard Sale, Refreshments, the Sarasota Millionaires Minor League Football Team will be on hand to sign autographs, hang out and talk football and for the young sports enthusiast a “Youth Mini-Football Clinic”. The event will be broadcast live from 11am to 1pm over the internet by Millionaires play-by-play sportscaster Doug Miles.

There is also a very special event: the Grand Re-opening of our dog kennel building! Thanks to a generous bequest, the dog kennels now have air conditioning/heat and brand new enclosures! The kennel also has new sky lights, an improved lighting system, new fencing, automatic watering bowls, better walls and flooring, and new entrance doors. There are two new “get acquainted rooms” for meeting the dogs, too!

Come and enjoy a day at the Shelter.

6th Annual Ron Gordon Golf Tournament

The sixth Annual Ron Gordon Charity Golf Tournament benefitting the Humane Society of Sarasota County tees off Saturday, Sept. 25 at 8:30 a.m. at Bent Tree Country Club in Sarasota.

Registration for the tournament, which will include range balls, breakfast, beverages and snacks on the course, a buffet lunch, prizes and an awards ceremony with trophies, is $85 per player. Hole sponsorships are just $100 and other sponsorships, starting at just $50, are also available.

MOBILE UNIT

HSSC’s Offsite Adoption Counselor John Mackler is ready to welcome adopters into HSSC’s state-of-the-art mobile adoption center. The vehicle can safely and comfortably transport up to two dozen pets to adoption events and can also be used for evacuation purposes, if necessary. PUPS AT THE POINT

3rd Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.

"Pups at the Point” is a partnership between Spanish Point and the Humane Society of Sarasota County, but all dog walkers are welcome as long as they obey these simple rules:

Dogs must be dog-friendly and up to date on vaccinations
No dogs in heat allowed
Keep dogs on a 4 – 6 foot leash at all times
Please stay on designated paths – no dogs in buildings
Use bags and trash containers to clean up after dogs.

More than 100 pet lovers filled Sarasota's Big Sugar Restaurant & Rum Bar Aug. 28 for a "Hair of the Dog" Rum Tasting event to benefit the Humane Society of Sarasota County.

Patrons sampled more than a dozen unique rums, enjoyed gourmet hors d'oeuvres, perused raffle items, viewed adoptable pets our mobile adoption center and listened to tropical-themed music.

The premier event, sponsored by Mercedes Medical and the Hanes family, took in more than $6,000. HSSC Board Member Michael Shackelford was the event chair.

"This was the first time we held a rum tasting and it was a big hit," Shackelford said. "The Humane Society of Sarasota County plans to make it an annual event. We truly appreciate Big Sugar's excellent arrangements and our guests' generosity. HSSC relies on donations - events like this help keep our shelter open to abandoned pets in need."
