PUPS AT THE POINT
3rd Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.
"Pups at the Point” is a partnership between Spanish Point and the Humane Society of Sarasota County, but all dog walkers are welcome as long as they obey these simple rules:
- Dogs must be dog-friendly and up to date on vaccinations
- No dogs in heat allowed
- Keep dogs on a 4 – 6 foot leash at all times
- Please stay on designated paths – no dogs in buildings
- Use bags and trash containers to clean up after dogs.
More than 100 pet lovers filled Sarasota's Big Sugar Restaurant & Rum Bar Aug. 28 for a "Hair of the Dog" Rum Tasting event to benefit the Humane Society of Sarasota County.
Patrons sampled more than a dozen unique rums, enjoyed gourmet hors d'oeuvres, perused raffle items, viewed adoptable pets our mobile adoption center and listened to tropical-themed music.
The premier event, sponsored by Mercedes Medical and the Hanes family, took in more than $6,000. HSSC Board Member Michael Shackelford was the event chair.
"This was the first time we held a rum tasting and it was a big hit," Shackelford said. "The Humane Society of Sarasota County plans to make it an annual event. We truly appreciate Big Sugar's excellent arrangements and our guests' generosity. HSSC relies on donations - events like this help keep our shelter open to abandoned pets in need."
