Class Descriptions

BASIC MANNERS OBEDIENCE CLASS

The Humane Society of Sarasota County’s Basic Obedience classes give you the knowledge to have a more rewarding relationship with your dog by showing you how to teach your dog how best to behave in your household. Dogs don’t come to you knowing what you expect from them, and you have to teach them the rules. Lessons include: pay attention, sit, stay, walk on leash without pulling, lie down, wait, come (all on leash), and more.

Classes meet each week for an hour for five consecutive weeks. Our classes are very affordable, and the cost is $65 for the five-week session.

The object is to communicate more effectively with your pet and bond with him through attention, praise, treats, and other motivators. Though specific “problem behaviors” such as chewing, excessive digging or barking and jumping on people are not specifically covered, you will find that many of these behaviors disappear once you begin interacting with your dog using the positive methods we teach. Even dogs who already have a pretty good grasp of these commands can benefit from the socialization and added distraction of obedience classes. It is never too late to have a great relationship with your dog!

BASIC MANNERS OBEDIENCE CLASS FOR PUPPIES

Basic Manners for Puppies is a great class to get you started in the right direction with your new puppy. It is a great chance for puppies to socialize with other puppies and meet new people while they are still young. It is also an opportunity to go over all those puppy questions that you have regarding housetraining, chewing, mouthing, jumping up, and much more. Throughout the class, puppies are given a chance to play and then they get to work learning lots of new tricks like sit, stay, down, coming when called, walking politely on leash, and leave it. Puppies must be 10 weeks old at the start of class and have had 2 DHLPP vaccinations.

The cost of this five-week course is $65.
