Q. What do I need to bring with me if I am interested in adopting?
A. If you rent a house or apartment, we ask that you please provide paperwork that states it is ok for you to have a pet.  If you are interested in adopting a dog and you already have a dog(s) at home, you may bring them with you for a meet and greet with your new potential family member but it’s not necessary.  It is very important that your current pets are up to date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative. We ask that you please DO NOT bring cats in for meet and greets.

Q. Can I place a hold on a cat or dog if I am unable to adopt that day?
A. Once you’ve met the pet you wish to adopt, we are more than happy to place a 24-hour hold on this pet if you are unable to adopt that day. The hold fee for kittens or puppies is $20; adult cats and dogs just $10. This fee can be paid by credit card, cash or check. If you decide to adopt that pet, the hold fee will be applied directly to his/her adoption fee. If you choose not to adopt and contact us after 24 hours, the hold fee becomes a donation to the Humane Society of Sarasota County.
