Q. What is your mission?
A. The Humane Society of Sarasota County provides abandoned pets with compassionate care and shelter while promoting responsible pet ownership and securing permanent homes.
Q. When was HSSC founded?
A. The Humane Society of Sarasota County was incorporated in 1952 and the city of Sarasota leased the current property to HSSC for $10 a year until 2043.
Q. Is there a Board of Directors?
A. Yes, we have a very active Board consisting of 18 community leaders.
Q. How many animals are in the care of HSSC?
A. We have on average 150 animals each day in our care.
Q. What services does the HSSC provide to the community?
A. HSSC offers pet adoptions, humane education, pet therapy, volunteer programs and canine obedience training.
Q. Does HSSC receive funding from HSUS or any other national or government agency?
A. No. We receive no state or federal funding from any entity, nor are we funded by any national humane organization. HSSC relies solely on the support of private donations, bequests and grants.
